How can I pierce my own belly button?

Question

I am 14 and reeeally want my belly button pierced. My parents would never let me until I'm at least 17..I don't want to wait 3 more years! So I want to do this myself, and I need some advice on how to sterilize a needle and keep it from getting infected.

Please don't try to convince me to not do it! I'm just looking for some good advice, I'm going to do it in about a month and my friend is going to do it for me. I just want to be safe!

dont pierce your own hun.. go to a reputable place. an infection wont be pretty

Go to a jewelery store, i did my lip and my friends belly last week, i went to a Silver Depot, and told them i needed a Piercing Needle (16 gauge) and they gave it to me, and i picked out the ring and went to the house...

When we were there we washed our hands (my friend who had pierced before did both so she knew what she was doing), and held on tight. A lot of places won't even sell you the needle unless you're 18. They didn't ID me, because I look and am 18, but they might you.

my boyfriend did mine last night and it came out perfect. we were both shaking, we were so nervous. get a prepackaged, sterilized, hollow 14 gauge piercing needle. get a cool aunt, older cousin, friends mom, etc. to buy you it or order it online because this is the only proper needle to use. I got mine at a tattoo shop who sold it to me because I knew the owners son and my boyfriend (whos 17) was with me.

buy a stainless steel 14g banana-shaped barbell (they have a ton at claires and icing and other places) and stand in front of a mirror with it and a sharpie. figure out where you want both holes and mark them with sharpie dots. look at pictures online for correct piercing spots. put the ring in a small dish of rubbing alcohol--unscrew the ball and put both parts in. if you have a clamp, put the ends of it in the alcohol also. if not, get one of those black clips for paper and put it in the alcohol. while they soak for 10 minutes, wash your hands and put gloves on or wash them again and prep your belly button with alcohol on a cotton ball. remove the belly ring and the ball and place them on a paper towel. dry the clamp with paper towel and put the two wire loop ends to pinch the skin so both dots are lined up and the needle can go straight through. pinch it tight while your friend takes out the needle. this isn't necessary, but she can hold a slice of apple or pear behind the clamp and have her stick the needle clear through with a strong steady hand from the BOTTOM up until she feels it stick the apple slice. make sure she doesn't stop halfway through. push the needle through until there's about a centimeter left sticking out below the piercing and hold the unscrewed end of the belly ring against the end of the needle. it should stick inside somewhat. make sure you DONT lose connection as you push the ring against the end of the needle and slowly pull the needle through until the bellyring is pulled through the hole. s***w the little ball on and you're all set. put some bacitracin or neosporin on a q-tip and swab gently around the two holes. put a bandaid loosely over the piercing to protect it from rubbing against your clothes. wash it gently in the shower 1-2 times a day with mild liquid soap and hold a cup of water with 1/4 tsp sea salt dissolved in it, upside down on your belly button for 10-15 mins a day. reapply bacitracin after each cleaning GENTLY. dont touch it but make sure your hands are washed before you do any soaking or cleaning. don't overclean it or use rubbing alcohol to sterilize it because that will agitate it. wear a watertight bandaid over it when swimming for 2-3 months after. you can change it after it's healed, in 4-6 months to a year. good luck! p.s. - mine didn't hurt at all because I had a great person doing it and a professional needle (laser-sharpened). the sharper the needle, the less pain. make sure it's hollow, too. good luck again!
