How can I play video files (AVI, Divx, or any other format) on my Xbox 360?

I have various applications to convert any video files to any other video files but I can't find a way of playing movies in the correct format on my Xbox 360. I was hoping to burn the files to a data disc either CD or DVD and play via Xbox 360. Am I missing some software on my Xbox to give it the ability to play these files? I have no means of connecting my Xbox online, so if there is a download that I can add to my Xbox hard drive then this would be fine or am I just not trying the correct format?

It just acknowledges that there is a mixed media disc in the drive.

And some sites can provide simple software help you to burn the ISO Games into DVDs, it is very easy and fast. After the instructions by them, you can go ahead to play those games you burned onto your XBox 360.

Xbox reads the .Vob format, the files you have now are in AVI format..

I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD. Ive been using it for a year now, never had a problem!

It will convert your video files to the dvd format readable by all standard dvd players, then burn automatically to DVD!

Xbox's won't read from a burned disc otherwise you could just burn games onto them and get them to work, you need an original DVD/game for it to play it.
