  5. Oceanblue 407 said it all: "surf, surf, surf, surf." There are lots of things you an do to stay in good condition to surf, but when the bottom line is up, surfing is how to improve surfing. Get in the water and get off the computer, and good luck!

  7. Here are three tips:

    First, get experience in a variety of conditions. Unfortunately comps are often held in small and sloppy surf. Often the date for the contest was set long before the conditions were known. So if you can perform in lousy to epic conditions you are well covered.

    Second, get yourself filmed. This is one of the best ways to improve anyone's surfing.

    Finally, be in the best shape you can be. All the training methods you mentioned above are great. The more surf-specific you can make your training the better---that will have better application to your in-the-water performance.

  8. get there early but don't practice right before the contest, you'll be worn out. surf at the location of the contest a few days before the actual thing, and learn about the spot (if the lefts or rights are better, if there are hidden rocks, etc.)

  10. um i would just surf like a few times every day, maybe do some yoga or stretch a lot but make sure that it's relaxed so u dont over work yourself but i wouldnt practice too hard because u might like get too tired or worn down trying to prepare when the real test is in the comp. also the first guy on here got that off of a quote in SURFING mag not that it matters but anyways good luck!
