How can I prepare for high school track?

i want to join the track team for high school but i've never been on a track team and i'm not fast at all. plus the fact i'm a little out of shape and i don't have that much stamina. my high school starts around late august and is there any way to get faster and have more endurance? if you recommend running around the neighborhood.. well i live in a townhouse and all there's only hills and barely any flat ground @.@

oh and i play tennis encase you needed to know ><" i have no clue how this came out but my tennis coach's assistant (i think he's somewhere around 16-18) asked if i was do track and said i was fast.. does that mean i'm fast? o.o?? ah! i also chase my brother around when he makes fun of me (you know how like siblings make fun of each other and they start to chase each other like a cat and a mouse -.-) and i can keep up the pace w/ him and then after like 20 seconds i get tired so yeah xD does that mean i'm fast but i don't have much stamina/endurance? or i have neither?

  2. run every morning doesn't matter if its hills or not, at least 2miles every morning

  3. start running on the treadmill about an hour a day

  4. I gotta say that I didn't read the whole question, but I think the relevant part was covered in the opener. Anyhoo, runnersworld.com has some great training strategies for all fitness levels. You'll find just what you need there. Something else that is invaluable is core strength, you know, those are the muscles that engage when you cough. Those muscles help to stabilize your whole body and will improve your time. I think there are core routines there as well. Good luck!!

  5. getting tired after chasing someone for 20 seconds is common, because when you chase someone both people are usually running at full speed.

im in the army, and the best way to prepare for track is to run. running up and down hills will help you run faster too.

dont run on a treadmil bc in track you dont run on a treadmil

you run outsude and your should get used to running in those conditions

  6. Run! Go for it! Hills are PERFECT to practice on.

And run in the morning or night. Never the afternoon, especially during this season. You will get very dehydrated.

And if it's your first year in track, you don't have to be fast. Give the sport a try. If you like it, you'll practice more and you'll have a better stamina. And if you decide to join next year, do it! Because you WILL improve.

    Ever heard of Cross Country?

  7. Well, my 800 meter time was good, so I'll help you out, ok?

First off high school track is very hard, especially districts and finals, 2:43 or whatever is not a good time at all, very slow.

    -Run a mile a day

-Practice running real fast around the track once(400 meter)

-Eat healty and exercise evryday, that's it, hope you join and do good.

  8. Everyday jog, when you wake up do push ups and exercise eat healthy and once a week run something like a track and time yourself

  9. Well, I have not been in track but i am a football player. My problem is speed, i was not fast enough for wide reciver so the put me on tight end temporarily. So, Everyday after practice i would stretch for like 5-10 then run the 40, 10 times at full speed. Then run around at a slow jog, run for as long as you can, the key is to pace yourself. Do this routine for atleast 2 weeks, then add in the 40 starting position, this increases speed alot. I would also suggest that you go to a gym and do leg presses repitevly, or you can squat, either will do. In conclusion 2 weeks of the 40, 10 times, then throw in the 40 start, you can contuinue this as long as you need to, a good 40 time is around 4.9-5.8 good luck!

P.S. Hills only make your legs and thighs stronger, your stamina will increase at a great rate too! you'll be fine!

  10. I did track for the first time for my first year of high school and i was totally out of shape but what you have to do is run everyday. Usually for track practice we ran about 2-3 miles. We did these things called ladders, but that probably doesnt matter to you right now.

If dont think you're fast, then just keep on runnig. honesrly, im a little bit heavy for a sprinter but I run 100 meters in about 16 seconds. which i guess is good for my weight. No one really ever knew how fast i could run.

I really you'll be able to do it! just run :D it will get easier!

  11. Just run run run and run

I was also thinking of joining track next year in High School and I guess the best thing to do is exercise, get in shape, and increase your endurance through practice

  12. You are going to need to do a lot of running, exercises, and agilities. Such as lunges, leaps, power skips, those sort of things. If you are interested in long distance, go for some long jogs. If you like short, do several small distance sprints. One of the most important things in track is stretch. You will need to do a lot of stretching so that you don't pull anything. The first week this will be pure heck for you, but after you get in shape every thing will be simple. Good Luck

  13. It all depends on what event you want to do but to do middle or long distance you should start off doing miles everyday. Short runs can be good at first but after you get in shape you should go longer. Hills are good they strengthen your legs and make them more explosive for speed. After you get in good shape you should do threshold runs once or twice a week. Those are when you go and do 15-20 minutes as hard as you can while keeping a steady pace. Try doing short sprints after runs as well. Short sprints help improve speed. Good luck!

  14. You seem to be a sprinter. They run shorter races but require much more speed. For my high school track team they don't cut people. And I started running when I was in 8th grade, I'm going to 9th now. And I ran fast but I couldn't keep a decent pace. But now I can. All I can tell you is, when you jog the mile, or two miles, {it helps build strength and endurance} keep a decent pace. It's going to be difficult at first, but you'll come to realize it will help you very much in the future. Form is important too. If you have more quesitons just ask me in my running question lol :D

Hills are realli difficult sometimes, but it's realli good for you. Run up and down a steep hill around 18 times, and running 3-4 miles will be easy as heck for you !

  15. Start by riding your bicycle and keep from hurting your knees until you get into better shape and work on your breathing. The hills would be good for you in strengthening your legs.

  16. Well no you don't have a lot of stamina but in order to prepare for track you half to eat healthy and try running up and down stairs but most importantly and you have to do this whether you want to or not but you have to practice how straight your legs are and how your are holding your arms. Also do not run so fast when started of just relax your arm. And another important thing is that you have to breathe in through your nose and out your mouth thats whats making you so tired when chasing after your brother. An stretch all th e time before and after you run so you wont pull a muscle or anything to ingure or damage your muscles!!!!
