How can I prepare physically for Basic Officer Training (US Air Force)?

I can't run a mile and a half in 12 minutes? I need some logical advice on improving my physical condition to prepare,

  1. Have you been accepted in BOT? If you have congrats. If you haven't the run may be the least of your concerns.

    But the best way to get in shape is go find a track/cross country coach and ask if he wouldn't mind if you get some tips from him. My guess is they'd be willing to help.


  2. If you are placed in DEP (meaning they won't ship you out immediately), you'll be forced to do practice drills with your recruiters I think. So that should help a little. Join a gym or run the track at your school to practice. Your school's track is about 4 laps per mile. You also shouldnt be feeding your face like a pig and vegging out anymore.

    Also the 1.5 mile "run" your allowed to do light jogging or speed walking for part of the time to cool down. If you were running constantly thruout the 1.5, you'd complete it in 8 minutes. So there's about 4 minutes of cool down.

  3. Run and run and run, but don't push too fast because you'll injure yourself and then have to wait weeks to start over again.
