Question:

How can I prevent my neighbour putting a gas pipe onto a wall which means it will overhang my property?

The wall is the side of his house his but it is also the boundary to my property and the gas pipe will overhang this. I am worried about access, safety and maintenance issues. Where do I stand legally?

  1. i am missing something here,,,,your neighbour is "installing"this pipe,,,fraid not its illegal and needs passing by a "Corgi" trained gasfitter and plumber,,i cannot see a gasboard "legit"installer being a party to this amateurs ideas no one can by law install gas pipes until they are checked out by a qualified fitter,,,,ring your local gas board and they will close him down asap,,,they send an inspector and "condemn"it(means he cannot use it at all.)

and yes if it also is over your property line object,

nb if you dont object(in writing) after a time(like he puts a fence up on your property)(i think its 5 years )it becomes, his property or he has ("so called squatters rights")keep copies of all correspondence as well.

if you have a gas cooker with a bayonet fitting,,that is push pipe in and twist(like a light bulb, how easy is that?)it must be fitted by law by a "Corgi"qualified fitter

I'm pretty sure he'll need planning permission to do that.

Go to the council and ask them whether he needs planning permission (it's a leading question), and how you can stop this from happening.

    They should help.

btw, no smoking near the pipe!!!!!

  3. what sort of gas pipe is he putting " onto a wall " ? if he has permits and inspections   the gas piping will have to meet code . and as he owns his wall i would doubt you have much to say about a pipe running on his wall.

  4. There is probably an easement along the properties.  I once lived in a house on what was called a zero lot line.  My neighbors house wall was my property line.  There was an easement that allow work to be done on the house next door.

You need to check with your city codes and talk with the neighbor first.

Get the conversation going with anything that will get the neighbor to say yes right up front, like what a beautiful it is, or what a crappy day it is.  That will help the discussion.

My neighbor  always asked to enter my property for the easement as I had a locked fence in front and back.

If it goes in you could just paint it to match the house.  If it is within regulation then there should be no problem with safety.

    Good luck.

  5. Well, I would personally talk to him, if he is un co-operative, take him to court, most probably County Court, because it is a violation of personal property.

  6. If his house is on the lot line, then anything he would add to the exterior would by definition encroach on your property.  I would research the deed of your property and see if you can find his as well, perhaps at the county register of deeds, and see if there are any documents that describe how to handle this situation.   Another option is to call your municipality's building inspection unit and ask them.

  7. Well, first I would just talk to your neighbor about your concerns, but if they don't want to cooperate, I would contact a lawyer. They know all the loopholes.

  8. I think you should just let it be.... this isn't something to fight about.

Pick your battles wisely my friend.

  9. I don't think he can put that on your property.  Take him to court.  I'm not sure which type, maybe Civil?  I'm not a sue happy person at all.  But, I understand your concerns.

  10. well talk to them... they're not allowed to do that without your permision (dont know if thats spelt right =P). If they still do that you can take legal action....

  11. knock the wall down

  12. i'm check with the city for a permit and report him if no permit exist
