How can I pull off or "de-arm" the teeth of tilapia and other chidlids?

  3. Why do you want to do that?

    If they are giving other fish a rough time, they probably have unsuitable tank mates, or the tank is too small for the kinds of fish you have.

    Cichlids tend to be aggressive, some species more so than others.

    African Rift Lake cichlids are less aggressive when there are more of them together - too busy looking over their shoulders to see who may be coming up behind them perhaps!

    Other cichlids definitely need enough space so that they can claim their own territory, also hiding places.  You need to be aware of how cranky an individual species tends to be, and house them accordingly. Some species of cichlids are pretty easygoing, while others definitely are not. If not mixed with others of similar size & temperament, you will have trouble. Also, there are individuals that are just plain cranky, and may need their own tank or be put in with much bigger fish that he can't shove around effectively.
