Question:

How can I purchase an already taken domain name?

I want to purcahse a domain name but it is already in use. There is nothing on the website though. It re directs you to some other site so techinally, you can't even pull up the domain I want to buy.

I saw who owns it but it seems like some large company. There is no specific name. They are based out of Arizona and when I put in their phone number, a ton of different things came up. Same with the address.

I found out it will expire in Jan 2009. How can I go about getting it? I'm just confused because it seems like it's just not an individual owning it.

  1. You can find much better domains for sale at website like

    http://sedo.com/main.php3?language=us&pa... .

  2. First, a quick comment.  Just because a domain doesn't have a website at "www.domain.tld" doesn't mean the domain doesn't exist or isn't being used.  Sometimes, a domain is purchased simply to redirect a webpage elsewhere.  For example, Barnes and Noble own "bn.com" and "barnesandnobel.com" (note the misspelling), and probably others, that simply redirect to the "real" website at "barnesandnoble.com".  And, though less common nowadays, a domain could simply be used for e-mail or other net-based services, and they simply don't have/want a website.

That said, you have two options:

One, you could wait for the domain to expire, hope that they don't renew, and hope that you can register it before someone else does.

Or, you could contact the owner (a "whois" on the domain should give you several points of contact -- the registrant, a technical contact, and an administrative contact) and tell them you would like to buy the domain name from them, and ask if they are interested in selling it.

  3. you cant you have to purchase a new domain no body is taking it

  4. Try contacting them with the addresses or phone number

Also try GoDaddy.com and there should be a link "Use a Domain Buy Agent to get this name" But I don't know how to use this and have no idea how to use it :S

  5. Some companies/people do mass registration of common names. People like you who want those domains usually pay and get the domains transferred to them.

If you have not already got the exact details of owners, use this:

    http://member.dnsstuff.com/pages/tools.p...

  6. You could go to the following web site:

    http://www.whois.com/

This is one way.  There may be other sites that could be better.

  7. Hi – Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been there myself and I know that you have to try to make contact with the organisation or person who bought the domain name. It sounds like you're having difficulty finding contact details, which makes me think that the domain will probably be used. Those people who buy domain names to make some cash usually make their contact details quite obvious. Best of luck in trying to get it!

  8. Get a free domain, co.cc

    https://www.co.cc/

It's free, when you register you can get up to 3 domains, then if you donate you can get as many as you want. Very good, I use.

    Good Luck!

Oh Godaddy.com is your best beat to buy it from him.

  9. You will need to wait a couple of weeks after it expires, that is if they don't renew it.

The provider will hold it just in case

  10. GoDaddy and other domain purchasing services do offer a service you can pay for, which will attempt to allow you to purchase the domain name first, as soon as it is available.  However, the current owner always gets the option first to repurchase it if it expires.

You can always contact (however difficult it seems) the current owner and ask if they will sell it to you or release it when it expires.

It is actually a common practice to purchase a domain and not use it.

  11. contact the owner and make them an offer they can't refuse.

I have a few domains I am sitting on for just such a day....
