Simply put = My son is unemployeed and irresponsible . His girlfriend is simular . Hence a grandchild is on the way . They live here with us . Can I claim this baby as a dependant and put him on my insurance . I'm not rich but I don't mind starting over raising another child and my wife is in agreement . Please don't tell about my son = I know we are inabling him to be irresponsible . My question is about trying to take care of this baby the best way WE can under the circumstances . Really why wife and I know these kids can't properly care and raise this baby .

  1. why don't you take your son and his wife down to the welfare office and have them sign up for medicaid.  a lot of states have free health insurance for children.  who is paying for her pregancy?  that qualifys for free medicaid too.  they even give it to illegals! no questions asked.

    call 211 on the phone

    or www.211.org

and look up medical insurance for kids.

  2. No, your grand child does not meet the definition of a dependent. However, if you have legal custody you can obtain an individual policy for the child, which probable costs you less anyway. Or you can pay the premiums if a parent signs the health insurance application.

    Good luck,

  3. Its not unusual for an employer to allow a grandchild to be added to a health insurance policy...***IF*** you have legal guardianship and/or legally adopt the child.

The only way you can know what your specific employer's requirements are is to ask them.  The requirements for an eligible dependent are clearly spelled out in your actual insurance policy, if you can locate that copy.  Otherwise, just ask your employer.

Most likely, they'll require some sort of documentation, for example court papers showing that the child is in your custody, etc.

  4. Common situation you met like many other people, therefor,be patient, and check the resource here i found useful.http://health-insurance.onlinebestoffer....

  5. The parents would have to sign papers giving you guardianship of the child.  Then you could put him/her on your insurance.

  6. By adopting them.

The child of your child is NOT eligible to be added to your group health insurance plan.

But adopting the child, could solve a multitude of problems, especially as you guys are prepared to raise another child.  Good for you, taking care of your grandbaby.
