So a couple of months ago I got into a drunken argument with some jerk I knew from high school. He was trying to get a ride home with me and insisted on getting in my car when I told him no repeatedly (no I wasn't driving someone else was driving for me) anyway, he got so mad that he spit all over my windshield and started calling me some really nasty names. I got out of my car and spit back at him and told him he better leave before the cops come. Well, sure enough the cops came and he ended up getting arrested because he couldn't stop mouthing off to the cops. Now, he is going around telling people that I called him the N Word and that I'm racist when I'm not. One of my best friends is part black and he was there that night and saw everything. Random people keep asking me if I really am racists and why would I say such terrible things when I didn't!!! How can I stop this?

  1. Ride it out...those who really know you have no need to even ponder that question....

  2. Let it go.  There will be something new to get excited about in no time, and people will forget about you.  Ignore it.

  3. You can't stop what people think of you. Maybe one or both of you shouldn't have been drunk that night. Now you have to deal with the consequences. Just get over it and not care if people think you're racist. Why would you react to something not true anyways? Or if you're lucky you can get that guy to tell people it wasn't your fault. Good luck.

  4. Just ride the wave.

That is one of the ugliest accusations... just rise above it and say to people look, the guy is ticked off at me for what he caused and I will not dignify that garbage with a response.

It has to just pass by itself. You cannot put that genie back in the bottle but it should blow away if it isnt fed.
