Question:

How can I "ace" volleyball try-outs this year?

I'm trying out for my school's JV volleyball team this year. I was captain of the modified team last year.I'm EXTREMELY nervous about the tryouts which start in 1 week. I'm making myself sick! I started bumping the ball and setting to myself in my backyard and even spiking against the retaining wall.

There is supposedly A LOT of girls trying out this season and I want it SO badly. I was cut from the JV softball in the spring and I'm afraid of that happening again.

Please give me some tips that can strengthen me so I can do my best to get on the team.

thanks.

  1. I can only say keep practicing and don't slip up on just focusing on the other people just keep working on your abilities. GOOD LUCK!

  2. remember when your bumping during tryouts always to square up.It helped me

  3. 1. RELAX- you cant exactly play your best when your nervous, it will hold you back. dont waste your energy on being nervous, use your energy for the court.

    2. LEARNING ATTITUDE- show your coach that although you may not be the best player or the most experienced player, you are the player that is ready to listen and learn. you must be the player that is willing to work hard. be the one who is open to all suggestions and advice given.

    3. HUSTLE- coaches notice players who hustle. that includes during games, during practice, during drills, anytime and all the time. there is no walking on a volleyball court, near a volleyball court, or near any practice/ game areas.

    4. MIND SET- you are not going to TRY to do your best, you are going to DO your best- even if your not the most experienced or skilled. show your coach thatt you are there to play volleyball, try to avoid side conversations during games or practice, or most imporant: NO TALKING WHILE COACH IS TALKING!

    5. AGGRESSIVE!- number 1 rule in volleyball, if you are going to call the ball, you are gonna call LOUD and you are gonna get the ball. call the ball when you think you  can get it, you call it, you get it... even if someone else is calling the ball , too. but, make sure if you're going to get the ball while someone else is calling it, that you were calling the ball louder than your teammate.

    practice! practice!practice!

  4. i kno wat ur feeling LOL umm i do alot of jumprope and wear ankle weights and go running and jogging anything to build ur stamina

  5. hard work

  6. Don't be intimated that there will be alot of people, just focus on yourself. Always do what the couch says. Be very open to what he/she says. If the couch needs volunteers: RUN

And its good that you're bumping and setting to yourself... That helps... Alot.

    Good luck!!

P.S. Pick me 4 best answer!

  7. You need to find local open volleyball (open gym) and play some real games, not just practicing against the wall.

Try this link and go from there...

  8. ha. keep doing what your doing. if you dont work out normally start but dont over do it cuz if your sore for tryouts it will suck. um hustle always. NEVER WALK ON THE COURT! for us its like you have a water break but dont you dare be caught walking for us it is THE difference between making JV and varstity (small school)...try your hardest. get every ball that is yours..body on the floor full out dive for it. um call it. be loud. encourge everyone. and dam it push it until your going to puke. h**l we have a few girls puke a day here and there is 18 of us for JV and varsity and we had 3 pple puke today. so push it do your best and then do better
