How can I "get heard"?!?

Hey.

First of all let me just say I'm a 15 year old, quite clever boy. But one thing I don't particularly have is the gift of being a natural talker. When I do try to talk to anyone e.g. at school, I usually end up mumbling, or not being loud enough, and I have quite a monotonous tone.

My question is how can I make myself heard? Not just in a how to speak way, but more of a confidence way!

I want to be able to speak to someone confidently, and be able to say exactly what I want to with ease, and still be interesting.

  1. first practice walking down the halls not saying anything just look at everyone in the eyes - don't look away when you make eye contact and say hi with a smile -

second make sure you are standing as tall as possible - walk tall too

third speak to people on topics you have knowledge - for more facts google

forth - being heard comes from belief in what you are speaking about

    good luck

  2. I used to have that problem, and I still do sometimes. It just takes practice. Once you get more comfortable talking with the person, you'll be able to communicate easier.

  3. Reminds me of you...

  4. I agree with Tralee, don't speak just fill air space. Talk when you have something to say, and it will be more natural.

  5. Speak when you really have something to say.  Don't just talk to seem sociable.  That works badly--you end up saying dumb stuff that you regret, and the next time you want to talk it is harder.

  6. I agree with lyn above...

Also do some form of verbal practicing... reciting poems, famous speeches or songs (in the privacy of your room if your uncomfortable doing it in the open) to exercise your vocal cords and get used to the sound of your voice's projection. Don't whisper... recite in a normal tone and volume.
