Question:

How can I "un-stuff" my nose?

My allergies are getting really bad. I have itchy eyes, a scratchy throat, and my nose is practically swollen shut. The only allergy medicine I have here is for runny nose, not stuffy.

Is there anything I could do to "un-stuff" my nose? Like a home-remedy?

  1. Decongenstion tablets

  2. Though I like the dishwasher answer (lol), something you can do which would also be helpful to your health in general - soup.  Or you could go for the spicy foods.  Just make sure it's nothing too spicy that would upset your stomach.

The soup may sound like an old wives's tale or some crazy myth, but with the proper soup (which is where it is decided if it is healthy or not), it can be good.  The old fall back of chicken noodle or even tomato soup can give you nutrients you need, you don't have to chew or swallow much (as I'm sure you already know can be difficult with a stuffed nose), and the part that actually helps with the stuffiness is the steam.  Don't make it so hot that you can't stand it, but make sure it is good and steamy.  And make sure you have tissues close by.

The other option is spicy foods.  The heat from the spices has the same effect as the steam from the soup, especially if the food is well cooked and steams up as well.

Which one to choose is pretty much boiled down to which one would you prefer and/or do you think would be the better choice for your stomach?

  3. Try putting a bowl of approx 5-10 FRESH lemons next to your bed when you sleep. I used to do that. It may not help you all day. But it helps. You can also try HOT chile/jalapenos. That will clear you up in seconds...

  4. u need to take some Claritin. i take it for my allergies and it helps alot. plus it list that it solves all of those problems.  i hope it helps u man. u migh need sumthin stonger. ask the pharmacist, they know.

  5. Hot showers - the steam helps "loosen up" the gunk. Tapping on and massaging your sinuses - between your eyebrows and right along your nose and cheekbones - will start to break it up. You can also get a bulb syringe (it's like a rubber ball with a spout, not a needle) at most pharmacies, and rinse out your nose with a solution of warm salt water (sounds icky but apparently it's not painful and works really well).

Drink plenty of fluids to soothe your throat.

Mucinex-D is designed to break up congestion in your sinuses - you can find it at any pharmacy and it's VERY effective.

  6. Vapor Rub, or stick your head in the dishwasher after it's done, if you don't have a humidifier.

  7. I just went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist yesterday about  the same thing you are experiencing.

She told me to go get Claritin - it's the BEST Allergy medicine available and it's right over the counter! I have already taken two and I feel alittle better. No drowziness either - I was worried about that.

    Good luck to you!
