How can I raft the south fork of the American River?

The South Fork of the American River is the most run section of whitewater on the West Coast, and there are scores of rafting companies that would love to take you for a ride.

The two main sections are the "Chile Bar" (my personal favorite) and "The Gorge" (A good run, but a bit too much flat water at the end for my taste).

It may be a little too big right now for beginners, so be sure to ask the rafting companies if the flow is safe this time of year.

You can do single day, or multi-day runs.  Here are a few raft companies that offer guided rafting river trips:
