  1. You've already gotten some good advice. Conley was especially right on. The train from Genova is fastest.

And while the boat can be beautiful, there are not many boats that make the trip during the week. (I know because I just put a friend of mine on the train from Genova to Vernazza, the town just south of Monterosso this a.m. because there were no boats going out on a Tuesday) Take advantage of a boat ride in the region while you are there.

I would also suggest that you avoid the CinqueTerre on the weekend when it is swamped with study abroad students -- trust me, the secret is out about this amazing spot -- and go midweek when you'll find it easier to relax and enjoy the region with some solitude.

Check out these websites for info on the region and the CinqueTerre card that gives you access to the hiking trails and the region.

  2. September is ok, Cinque Terre is a climatic zone. I suggest you to visit also Portovenere, Portofino and Camogli! :)

  3. from the french riviera go east to rapallo or porto fino or santa margarita .they have busses from there to take you to cinque terre.i was there for the whole month of september two years ago and it was very warm

  4. You can reach Cinque Terre by train, or by ferry from Genova.  It is the best way to get there since, no cars are allowed in the five towns that are part of Cinque Terre National Park.  Below is the website, which contains very good information on the Cinque Terre park system and the communities, history, accommodations.

  5. September is a great time for Cinque Terre; it should be cooling down by then. Walking the trails can be fairly strenous during July and August.

If you're coming from France, there are train connections from the Genova Piazza Principe station.  You can check connections and schedules at: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. The first stop in Cinque Terre coming from Genova is Monterosso. The travel time is approximately an hour and a half. There are three or four trains per hour each way.

  6. i live 1 hour by car from cinque terre. they are 5 (cinque) amazing small towns on the sea and there are 5 small train stations, that's why you cannot probably catch a train directly from france, you have to change in genova.

in september the temperatures are still quite good, about 25-30 C°.

    enjoy your holiday!!!
