How can I reach professors who taught in East Germany while East Germany was still a country?

Contact one of the East German Universities, and they will likely be able to put you in touch with someone.  Humboldt University in Berlin might be a good place to start.

This should not be hard.  It's only been 18 years since the Berlin Wall Fell.

In addition to Julie's advice I would also contact West German universities. There are quite a number of East German professors who now teach in Western Germany or at least know collegues in their field who are from East Germany.

The most difficult thing will be to find professors in a certain field. I'm thinking for example of all the professors teaching Marxism and Leninism or philosophy in the GDR, because those might be a bit hard to find.
