Hi,

I know this is probably a dumb question but I am a first time home owner who knows very little about repairs! THe are three tiles that have come loose and the grout is kinda broken all around the area.

Thanks for your help!

  1. They used the wrong adhesive. I would go to a tile shop and get the correct stuff. It's kind of cheap. You'll probably have more later.

  2. you will have to re grout the tiles to get them back into place.

  3. scrap the glue of the tile and surface. reglue and put back and regrout. Srap out any broken grout and redo at the same time. Go to you local store to find what glue and grout etc . Real easy

  4. Maybe not so easy....if the tile was installed without first laying a backer board ( a concrete board, such as hardy board) the tile and grout will continue to come loose. If the floor gives in this area because of damage or looseness, the tiles will not stay down. Since a few are loose remove the adhesive under them and check for damage or if the proper backer board was used.

  5. It could be a problem with the adhesive, but it sounds more like a problem with the floor strength.

If the tiles are loose, then the adhesive will be stuck to the floor but not the tile, the tile but not the floor, or stuck to neither.

If the adhesive is stuck to the floor but not the tile, its either been laid incorrectly (adhesive almost set before tiles laid into it, or the floor hasd too much movement.

Ideally, stick the loose floor tiles down with a rapid setting flexible adhesive, make sure any timber surface has been primed. (after cleaning off any old adhesive) (tile and floor) and then regrout (after scrapping out the old) with a flexiable floor grout. If the floor is moving, take up all the floor and overlay with a good backer board or marine ply, and tile as above.
