Question:

How can I receive a proper Xbox 360 HDMI signal with a Samsung 1080p 40"?

I recently purchased an Xbox 360 Pro. I wanted the pro because it has the white case, and it matches the HTiB from Pioneer made specifically for the Xbox. I also purchased the Microsoft HDMI cable with audio adapter, as I wanted to have an HDMI signal passed to the TV, and the audio goes to the receiver. The problem I am encountering is that when I plug in the HDMI and the AV adapter into the Xbox and then turn on the TV, it cannot recognize that the HDMI cable is in HDMI 1. When I take out the AV adapter for the audio and JUST have HDMI, the TV recognizes it, and i get a picture and sound.

So in order for me to get a picture, the AV adapter cannot be plugged into the system when the HDMI port is being used. In case you were wondering, the reciever for the surround sound cannot even detect that the Xbox is outputting Dolby Digital.

My question is should I return and exchange my Xbox 360 as the AV port may be faulty when used with the HDMI cable? Or is it the TV?

Any help is appreciated

  1. It sounds like the little extension adapter (that breaks out the HDMI and L/R audio) is defective. Return it for another one.

Since the straight HDMI connection between the Xbox and the TV works fine - neither device is the problem.

Also - if that adapter is the one I am thinking of - it will NEVER give your receiver Dolby Digital.  Since it is feeding L/R analog audio - the best you can get is ProLogic.

Does your TV have a digital audio output?  If so - feed the receiver from the TV, not from the xBox.
