Question:

How can I recycle DVD spindles?

I have a number (actually a lot) of DVD spindles left over from when I bought CDs and DVDs in packs of 50 and 100. I tried taking them to the local recycling center but they do not take plastics in PP 5. I feel bad just throwing them into the trash. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  1. Only buy spindles that are recyclable. Leave any that are not on the store shelf. This is a general rule for everything you buy.

  2. use them for old cds that you need to store or home movies or pictures

decorate the inside of the cover with pictures of family or friends.

or take the top off and use the spindle on the wall as a hat rack or for home decor, or for decorative curtains (rosettes)

or to store ribbons on or curling ribbon for gifts or yarn or string-the cover will protect it from dust.

  3. Do you mean the plastic container?Actually I have reused some I had from my work. I use them for storining my mosaic tiles in. Sorted in colours etc. I'd love to take them off your hands.

  4. I actually wrote a blog about different ways you can recycled your old cds and cd spindles. Check it out:

  5. go to www.earth911.org, type in Plastic #5 and your zip code. The site should give you a list of recycle centers in your area, I would verify by phone before I made a trip. Sometimes the list isn't 100% up to date.

  6. make wind chimes out of them and paint them pretty colours and hang them from your trees out the back yard
