How can I recycle cat food metallic cans? I live in MI?

Question

My cat consumes about 80 cans per month (the small metallic cans). Do any of you know how to recycle them or what to do with them, other than throw them in a garbage bag...

DOES ANYONE BUY THEM???? Does any pet store or walmart or something collect them?

It seems so much WASTE!

Check to see if your garbage service offers recycling. If not ask them why not!?

check the phone book for recycle centers. Even if they do not pay you, taking them down for recycle cuts the solid waste and saves landfill space.

The cans can be re-cycled. You will need to see if they are aluminum or steel. Get a magnet and check!

Peel off the labels, and sort them after giving them a rinse.

You might also try to conserve on the front end. Does your cat food only come in small cans? or are there larger cans that you can put a cover on in the fridge for a day or two? This will not only cut the waste in the cans, but save money int he packaging for you as well.

Every area does recycling differently. Lots of recycling centers accept some materials, but not others. It has a lot to do with your local recycling options. I would get together a list of the recycling establishments around you, find out what material the cans are made of, then call around and find out who takes  items of that sort. To find out which material you're dealing with you can probably check out the catfood company's website, or e-mail the company if the info is not readily available. It may even be right on the side of the can. Lots of luck, and compliments on making the effort!
