Question:

How can I reduce my Amazon's aggressive behavior?

My amazon has been getting very aggressive towards everyone in the household. She will lash out at anyone who comes within a 6 foot radius of her and will attack any object that I place near her play gym (especially red colored objects). The only person that she will tolerate/play with/follow/spare from biting, is me. I'd like for her to open up to the rest of my family and friends so that they can enjoy her company and can care for her in case something should come up and I should become unavailable.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

  1. most parrots will only let one s*x bother with it we have an African grey and my husband is the only one he doesn't attack but we can still let I'm out he just doesn't bother us he sits with my husband but u could try blowing him when he dose it as this will calm him down it dose take a while but it dose work if he is young

  2. It sounds like two things are happening (maybe three):

    1. She's territorial. Not much you can do here except move her to neutral territory for a while (away from her cage or stand).

    2. She's become a one person bird and you can't do anything about that either, except let the rest of the household KNOW she's a one-person bird.

    3. She's hormonal and you can't do anything about this either, but it's the least permanent of the lot.

  3. it could be cause most birds get attacted to their owners it is best for it to choose one person to reliy on,it sounds like a good watch bird.or it could be young most young birds bit and scream because they dont know better just say no or blow on him worked for me trust me it will work try it but it wont work right away --- good luck!
