  1. Add some moisture to the air. Here are few ways:

    Buy a humidifier.

Place pans or bowls of water near the heat vents.

Open 1-2 windows a crack (one inch) to allow fresh air inside.

Use a tea pot or a vaporizer for steam. (Don't let it get dry)

For a faster more immediate effect, spray the carpet with a fine mist spray of water.

I perfer to crack my windows.

  2. Increase the humidity with a humidifier.

  3. If possible, keep air humidity above 30% r.h.

Tip - if the air in your room is very dry you could try keeping an open wide dish of water handy - this will evaporate and moisten the air nearby.

Static charge build-up is enhanced when the air is dry. So, static problems and effects are often noticed in dry air conditions. The air outside can be very dry when the weather is cold and dry. Indoors, central heating or air conditioning can give very dry conditions which promote static electricity. Heating warms the air and reduces its humidity.

Static shocks are often noticed in cold dry weather, especially when in a centrally heated environment, and may disappear when the weather gets more humid. Static shocks may also be encouraged under air conditioning in hot weather.

Unfortunately cure is not always easy. Indoors, you can try raising the air humidity to 40-50% rh with a humidifier. (You can check the humidity with a cheap humidity meter from a gardening shop.) Also, look for shoes with leather soles.

  4. I remember once my son spilled all the baby powder in his room. I vacuumed it ( the vacuum cleaner spread it further) and after that my house was so electrically charged that I had a heart attack every time I switched on a switch

  5. Increase the humidity in your home.  Install a humidifier, vaporizor or something like that.

  6. Static shock occurs when the humidity in your home is too low, i.e., the air is too dry.

You can easily fix that by increasing the humidity. Either get a humidifier or  put pans of water on your radiators.

  7. By a can of staticguard and spray everything including the carpet, and metal and yourself and your clothing and use fabric softener in your washer and dryer sheets in the dryer.

  8. run a humidifier.  It should stop them all together

  9. Conect every thing in your house to a "GROUND" wire.[including the carpet]

  10. Stop rubbing the balloons!

    Ooor

    Get another carpet.
