Question:

How can I refinish and repaint my dumbbells?

I bought some dumbbells that have chipped paint and a few areas of rust. I want to repaint them so they look as good as new. What should I do?

I have a few cans of Rustoleum in my garage for metal or rusted items - but is it safe, or will it last?

  1. for a tough coating & lasting protection against rust, get the KBS kit containing RustSeal for about $17

  2. IDK about the safe part. Just don't paint the portion where your hand grips. Oil based paint would work better with metal, I'm guessing latex paint would be safer to be daily exposed to. Check it out the safety virtues of oil versus latex. It should say on the can whether it's latex or oil based.

  3. Lightly sand and use those cans dear............let them out in the warm air for a day........that's good stuff you are talking about........tough and probably won't chip that bad.......have fun

  4. Use fine sandpaper to give the dumbells a clean out and spray away with rustoleum.  That is the best to use for metal.

Let it dry for 24 hours and have fun doing it.  A good idea is to have it hook up to a broomstick so u can paint it without sitting it on the floor.
