How can I relearn how to play piano?

I used to take piano lessons for several years. I got up to level 5 in the Piano Adventures series if that helps you know my experience. It's been a couple of years since I've played and I would like to become an experienced player without the help of lessons. What is a good book that can help me learn quickly and get me to a fairly high skill level?

  1. Bestein Adult beginner series are the best books if you want to learn on your own. But you have to keep in mind that piano is not like riding a bike. Some skill will come back, but very little to help you be an experienced player. If you are serious and want to play, you have to go back to taking lessons, you won't have to relearn much of the theory but technique would have to be developed again. It seems like your are looking for an easy way out. It doesn't work like that. Sorry for being honest.

  3. Don't read a book. Just find a piano, and sit down infront of it for a while. It will all come back

  5. I think it is great that you would like to refresh your piano playing skills. Learning piano is very much like learning a language, once you stop for awhile, it takes some time to refresh the knowledge and know-how.

One of the fastest way to bring back your sight reading ability is to sight read some simple pieces. There are many free printable sheet music websites out there.

    Here is one http://www.yokewong.net/freesheetmusic.h...

And of course you do need to have access to some kinds of keyboard or acoustic piano. Check out local school or church.

In order to master piano playing, one needs improve both the sight reading and improvising techniques. Sight reading will help one play by notes and music. Improvising will help one make up his/her own music.

Feel free to check out http://www.yokewong.net for more piano playing resources.
