I spilled black hair dye all over my carpet...is there anything I can use to get the stains up? All I have tried is pet stain remover, which did nothing.

  1. An unfortunate accident with hair dye can make cleaning carpet a nightmare. In many cases, it may even mean the end of your carpet. Hopefully it won't come to this. There are a few things you can try to remove carpet stains of this nature. First of all, it should go without saying that if hair dye is spilled on the carpet one should act immediately. Dampen a sponge and apply dishwashing liquid. Blot the stain with the sponge until you've lifted as much of the dye as possible. You can also try doing the same thing with vinegar. If this doesn't work and the stain hasn't set into the carpet too deep, you might be able to snip the very top fibers of the carpet without anyone knowing. If none of this works, you'll have to call in a professional who makes cleaning carpet stains his business or rearrange your furniutre to hide the stain...

  2. Hair dye is not a stain it is a dye. The best thing that I can think of is to try color remover.  It is in the Rit dye section  of your grocery store.  This however could also remove the color of the carpet.  Test it in an inconspicuous area of the carpet before you try it on the actual spots.

  3. try using a different cleaning solution. if not try callin a carpet cleanin company and see if they can remove it.

  4. You will have to re-dye the carpet to try and match it.  Since the heair dye was black, you might want to use clorox to lighten the spot back to a more neutral color, then try and color match it with Rit or, some other type of dye.

    Good luck

  5. Getting hair dye out of carpet is tough - and if you're to have much luck it's best if you can get at the stain immediately.

    Here's what to do:

    Things You’ll Need:

    Dishwashing Liquid

    Cleaning Cloths

    Cloth

    Vinegar

    Step1

Blot the stain immediately with a clean, white cloth.

    Step2

Mix a solution of 1/4 tsp. liquid hand-dishwashing soap and 1 cup lukewarm water.

    Step3

Blot stain with soap solution, using a clean, white cloth. Blot from the outside of the stain, working inward.

    Step4

    Let sit a few minutes.

    Step5

Mix a solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts lukewarm water.

    Step6

Dab stain with vinegar solution, again working from the outside in.

    Step7

Once the stain has disappeared, flush the area with cold water and blot dry with a clean, white cloth.
