How can I remove carpet adhesive from hardwood floors and not damage the finish?

  1. Use a little bit of paint thinner. It will dissolve the glue and not harm your hard wood floors.


  2. Try acetone, or lacquer thinner.

  3. Mineral oil.

  4. The former answers may or may not work, and there is a chance the finish of the floor will be damaged. You can always use a floor sander and refinish.

  5. Use a steam cleaner. Steam a small area at a time, then wipe it off while it is softened.
