Question:

How can I remove ear wax buildup?

Regular q-tips don't work well in my ear. I tried some q-tips that were thin and in the shape of a match-stick while at a hotel but I can't seem to find them in the store. Any other suggestions?

  1. Our family has used hydrogen peroxide for years.  Lay down with one ear facing up and put a few drops of peroxide in the ear.  In a few minutes it will start to bubble and pop.  Let it stay in until the bubbling stops.  It may be 30 minutes if there is lots of wax build up.  Let that ear drain on a wash cloth and do the other ear.  Do this occasionally and you will not have wax build up.

  2. Have your ears syringed. Modern way is a little pulse jet which, opposed to the vets syringe, is totally painless. The worst you can expect from the old fashioned way, is the sensation of diving off a 10ft diving board. If You can swim...Youre OK!

  3. I used to use sweet oil on my daughter's ears when she was young. She had terrific amounts of earwax and was very sensitive, I couldn't use Q-tips on her at all. You can find sweet oil in the eardrop section of the pharmacy, I bought it at Wal-Mart. Put a few drops in one ear, let it soak 15-20 minutes, then put drops in the other ear and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. Put a towel under the ear that's draining. Then take a warm shower and let the warm water go in your ears and rinse them out well. If you do this every day for a week or 10 days, you should notice a difference. It really worked for me. Hope this helps. Good luck!

  4. Make an appointment with your doctor and have him/her wash your

    ear out.

  5. some pharmacies sell a liquid that you can drop in your ear and let the wax break free, then let it pour out. thats about all i can think of. an ear nose and throat specialist can also help if it begins to hurt.

  6. In the UK we use a product called Earex, it softens the wax. When I was a kid my Mum used a drop of olive oil... for years I thought it was olive oil's only use and I was horrified at first to find out you could use the stuff for cooking!!! :0)

  7. you should go to the doctor.. my sister had that and they take it out.

my sister said she felt some pain but it's worth it

  8. I have used proxide put it in your ear someone might need to help you let it set. And then clean it out with a q-tip. If it gets to bad the doctor can get it out.

  9. Rinse out a washing up liquid squeezy bottle, fill it w. warm water and blast the wax out over the bath.  If you go to the Doc and have them syringed out that is exactly what the professionals do.

Docs recommend softening up the wax w. oil for days before removal but when young I never did and had no problem.

  10. If you are pulling dried blood from your ear, stop using Qtips! You do not want to harm your ear drum.  Make an appointment to have your ears cleaned and examined for ear drum damage or an infection.

Some people just make more ear wax than others and need to have it syringed out from time to time.  No big deal.

If you aren't going to the doctor (and risking your hearing), get ear drops at the pharmacy and use them regularly to loosen the wax and let it drain out naturally.  Apply the drops before bed and put a towel over your pillow.

  11. My son had a job a couple of years ago and the noise level was deafening.  We were concerned about him because he couldn't hear all of a sudden.  I took him to the doctor and he said he had really bad case of ear wax buildup!  Nature's way of making earplugs, I guess.  The doctor squirted in some hydrogen peroxide in his ear mixed with a little water, it gurgled a little and when he turned his head, all kinds of yuk-o came out of his ear.  There's a over-the-counter ear wax medicine that has the peroxide so you might try that so you get the right balance of stuff.

  12. Visit your doctor and they will syringe it.
