Question:

How can I remove glue from a surface? please help!?

okay. its on my guitar. (strat) its been there ever since i got it. (used)

Its like glue from a sticker but its hard like super glue.

Any ideas?

  1. It is likely mucilage or something like that.

    If it does not come off with soapy water or a bit of lighter fluid I would likely ignore it.

    Water should not harm the finish on a strat, but trying to sand it off likely would.

    Lighter fluid or baby oil will take off most gummy contact cements, but if it is not gummy it is likely a l**k and stick vegetable base glue and water should dissolve it.

  3. mineral spirits work well.  if the surface is NOT painted then you can try nail polish remover or acetone.  Goo gone works but you will have to use it multiple times and use one of those Teflon safe scrubbers to budge stubborn stuff.

    if you have tons of patience, use ice packs to harden the material and chip it gently with a painters tool getting off the top coats then go in with the mineral spirits to get the residue

    also you can try the opposite,  heating the glue with a blow dryer and seeing if it will peel off.

    I WOULD NOT use lighter fluid - if your guitar has a finish on it the 2 substances can react.

  4. Try using WD40. It works on most glues.
