Question:

How can I remove "fake virus" alerts

"VIRUS ALERT!" warning by the clock.

No access to Control Panel,

No access to "All Programs" in Start menu

No access to My Computer and My Documents in Start menu

New so called Anti-Virus homepage on IE

New non-working Anti-Virus software. (Obviously spyware)

Webpage redirecting to a Microsoft-lookalike virus warning page, stating that there's a danger of viruses, spyware and trojans.

If anyone could help me find a way to get rid of this, it'd be a great help.

  1. It is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to the well known XP Antivirus rogue application.

    Download and install SmitfraudFix

After you download and install restart your PC in safe mode with networking

    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.s...

Double-click on the SmitfraudFix.exe icon then follow the screen instructions. Option #2 should be selected in this case.

When you are prompted with “Do you want to clean the registry ?”, simply answer “Y”.

While in safe mode you should download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

  2. Your computer is infected with rogue software. Download and run rogue antispyware removal tool from http://www.spywaregeeks.com to remove the rogue software from the computer.

  3. Download a free scan and look what kind of infection you have

    http://www.pcthreat.com/removers.html

  4. Kaspersky or AVG antivirus is first what you need. Install that and you should have the virus or malware removed. But in some cases, this virus could cause your Control Panel or Registry to still be locked to unlock this I will suggest that you download UNHookit from Norton anitivirus, install it and then your registry will be unlocked.

But most times the first steps will take care of everything. Next time be careful when some adverts appears for them to scan you system for virus... They just stalk you...

Finally, you may now go to the control Panel and uninstal some of the programs that are malware installed on the system. Sometimes the software may be some advertisement software...
