I spilled black tempura/poster paint on my carpet a few months ago and tried to clean it up with bleach/soap/etc. but it didn't work and I gave up. Well, now there's a black stain that is really noticeable on my carpet and it bothers me. How can I remove this stain completely?

  1. The black stain is caused by soap residues that you left in the carpet.

Any time you use a lot of cleaning products in one spot dirt will stick to the residue and eventually make a black spot. It probably needs to be rinsed a bunch with water using a carpet cleaning machine. Defoamer may be neccessary

As far as the paint goes....the longer the paint stays the more difficult to remove.

I'd be willing to bet that you will have a very hard time removing without professional assistance. You can try products like goof off or goo gone to dissolve the paint. However make sure you rinse it out of the carpet with water using a carpet cleaning machine. If the products stay on the carpet it could cause damage to the fibers and cause the backing to seperate

And always remember carpet is sensitive and can be damaged easily by many consumer products including oxiclean and resolve.

  2. If the stain is a small one cut a bit of carpet from under the settee and cut the stain away and clue the clean bit  were the stain is or buy a new carpet!

  3. Try Afta by Gardsman or Goo Gone.

    Home Depot

Probably to late for that now.

If you have any excess carpet or a peice from the closet a carpet installer could cut out the damaged area & seam in a new peice.
