  1. I have a DVD where they explain how to do all sorts of maintenance and repairs on the Sig Sauer pistols. The gunsmith swears that the factory sight tool is not needed if you use a soft metal (brass) punch and plastic or rubber mallet.

Never tap against the blade of the sight, only at the base.

Sights may be removed from either side of the slide. Sights should ALWAYS

be installed from the left side of the slide, as viewed by the shooter when firing.

When installing, the sight base must be aligned and seated in the dovetail of

the slide before making adjustments. Tapping the

opposite side of the sight base with a plastic hammer or end of a plastic s***w

driver will help seat the sight in the dovetail.

A drop of gun oil in the dovetail slot prior to starting will ease installation.

  2. Without damage it would be hard to do.  The front and rear sights are moved only with a lot of force.  They need to be precisely placed to be able to hit the target.  The P226 is a very accurate gun when the sights are set up right.

Go to WWW.Sigforum.com and sign up for free.  They do have a program where you can use one of these tools for free and instructions on how to do it.  You need to look under the armorer section for the information on both.
