  1. Yahoo has changed the way the group homepage image is set.

Right now, even though there is a link to delete the group homepage image, you can't, clicking the delete link causes an error.

If you do not want a group homepage image, your only choice right now is to set it to a single-pixel image (it will be nearly invisible). Create an image that has a pixel size of 1 by 1. If you want, make it the same color as your group's background color. It must be saved in JPG format. If you do not have a program that lets you create JPG files, do an internet search for "1 pixel jpg" (I was able to find several) and save one of those to your hard drive. Follow this procedure to make it your group homepage image:

Click the "Management" link on the left side of your group page.

Under "Group Settings", click "Description & Appearance".

Scroll to the bottom, under "Colors and Photo" and next to "Photo", click "Edit".

Browse to the location of the photo, then click the "Add Now" button.

  2. The only thing I can suggest is to complete a Yahoo Groups Help form and ask Yahoo Staff how to remove it.  Here's the link to the help form:  http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/...

That's something I have been trying to figure out for a very long time.  If you find out, I hope you will share the answer with us.
