How can I remove the scratches and scuffs from my plastic kayak?

I would like to remove the score marks from my kayak to make it more efficient in the water. What works best?

  1. just a guess but have you thought of a large soldering iron or a iron. I don't know if just an iron would get hot enough to melt the surface of the kayak.

  2. What type of kayak? What type of plastic?

    If it's a sea kayak sanding and using an epoxy filler may help.

    If it's a whitewater, why bother? Unless the scratch is very deep and weakens the hull. Then depending on the type of plastic in the boat, you need a quality patch job and not just a fill. It's not going to affect the boat anywhere near as much as your ballence and the wave action.

  3. If they are light scratches go to a body shop and get some rubbing compound or cutting compound. It may be called cutting or rubbing paste where you live
