How can I remove the sticky residue of painters tape from windows?

We repainted out glassed in porch. There are many windows, we used painters tape. When we removed the tape the sticky residue of the tape stuck to all the windows. What would be a good way to remove this?

rub it with eucalyptus oil, comes off easy and wont harm the paint

I did this just now when I removed the Centrino and Windows Vista stickers that were on my laptop. I tried rubbing alcohol and it didn't work that well. I used a bit of WD-40 spray and it's gone. Just wipe it down real good. I also used WD-40 to remove crayon marks from a computer monitor in a library.

You probably have WD-40 already. If not, it's the easiest to find in a store.

I have not heard of the oil thing....that sounds easy! Also, for LOTS of sticky situations, simply using mayonaise (not salad dressing) works as it has oil in it....works great on pine pitch!

I would try the oil, then go to the razor blade.

Sometimes (depends on the glue) rubbing alcohol will work. If not VERY carefully (as it will harm the paint), you can use mineral spirits or fingernail polish remover on a rag....BUT again, be very careful not to get it on the paint as it can remove that too! If it is a tight area, use a cotton swab.

Go to the drug store and buy straight razors that have that protective piece on one side.  Simply use the razor to shave the extra pieces of tape and residue off.  Don't cut your fingers.

Use a little bit of acetone. (Or indeed, nailpolish-remover).

But only on the sticky spots, and close the bottle well, so it shouldn't evaporate, because it's inflammable.

I have used Goo Be Gone that works..but if you are short on cash finger nail polish works too sometimes. Good Luck!
