How can I remove the tray?? Or can I?

The sliding tray is not my problem...The tray that is just above where the babys legs slide in is my problem. It looks as if this part can come off somehow...maybe there is something I don't realize i can do. I looked underneath and it looks like this part may slide out, but I can get it to budge. I am to the point of breaking this part off. There is really no reason it should even be there unless the infant is a NEWBORN. I have such a tough time getting my son in and out of it, and he is most definately not over weight. It just seems that any high chair would pretty much be "convertable" so you can pick your child straight up instead of sliding them through a mess of food...and possibly a dirty diaper...yes it happens alot. I am a first time Mom and will never buy another high chair that is not completely "convertable" so to speak. Hopefully you guys can help!!!
