Clock is a "Trend clock by Sligh". It had not run for 10 years for previous owner. The pendulum swings and it keeps perfect time now for me, but the right and left weights do not go down and the chimes do not work, even though they are turned on.

  1. Do it only after permission frm GF.

  2. check the cables on the right and the left cable drums check to see if they are laying neatly on the drums sometimes in transport they have a tendency to jump over one another and trap the preceeding wrap of cable under the next . if they are ok concentrate on the chime side which is on the right side of movement facing clock, if this part of the movement is in caution or has been activated it will lockout the strike side of the movement (left side) until it is finished chiming, sometimes the chime shift ( from whittington to westminster) lever gets moved while the chimes are in the process of chiming and jams the lift wheel into the bottom  of the hammers causing everything to stop . but without physically looking at the movement it is very diffucult to diagnose the problem . now heres the expensive part of the solution this movement is more than likely very dirty as far as the pivot holes in the side plates the old oil has more than likely dried and is causing the pivot shafts to bind in the pivot holes, the only solution is to have it totally disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned and then inspected for wear, possibly having new bushing installed in the worn pivot holes clocks such as yours should be oiled every 2 years and cleaned every ten.   hope this helps a little
