Question:

How can I replace my laptop hard drive?

I guess it's not really a question of how, but what products I can use. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and would like to upgrade the internal hard drive with something faster and having higher capacity. Dell's website does have some upgrades, but I would like to be able to shop around. How do I know if a particular hard drive would be compatible? Do I just look at the interface (i.e. SATA), form factor (i.e. 2.5") etc? Thanks for any help!

  1. The Dell Inspiron E1505 also known as the 6400, does support a SATA (2.5) hard drive.

One thing you need to consider is which Operating System you are running (how big of a Hard Drive will it support)  and how big your motherboard will support.

Dell's website lists the 80GB as a replacement as well as a 120 GB.  I would suggest sticking to the 120 GB.  If you are wanting something bigger than that, go with an external.

Unfortunately you would have to scan your system to determine exactly which motherboard you have installed.

  2. Usually U can use any hdd 2,5'' with the interface of the one U already have ( SATA or PATA ).

If U choose a faster hdd (for example if u have 5400 rpm) and buy a 7200 rpm , the battery life will short.
