I want to look up information about people, nothing really personal just like court information and anything that might be important...ie. a friend wants me to find out information about her bf apparently some guy lied about his past before. I found websites but you have to pay is it possible to do this researching for free and how?

  1. Settle down, that kind of thing not only doesn't come free but expensive.

  2. *sigh*

The Mormon (LDS) church has tons of records, but normally those concern dead persons.  Genealogy is not the same as a criminal background check on a living person. The reason there are charges for that type of website, is because they pay to have access to certain databases, that are not free.

Court and criminal records are open AT THE COURTHOUSE, but not necessarily online. I don't know what you define as "anything important".. certain info (birth certs for example) are not open to the public.

Far better if she finds someone who is known to be honest. Otherwise, expect to pay for services.

  3. The Mormons have a major huge database of genealogy info that they don't charge for.  Look them up in your phone book or online and find out where they are in your area.  They can supply you with access to all the info they have, for free, and they won't try to convert you either.

  4. I know for sure that here in the UK such information isn't freely available to members of the public, we have the DPA here, which prevents unscrupulous people finding out the information. You could hire someone to do the search for the information, but no matter which route you take you will have to pay.
