How can I reset the "service engine" light on my 2006 Toyota Tundra? (6 cylinder, automatic, std. cab)?

I have my truck maintained regularly, just not at the dealership... I check all the fluid levels frequently too. When I hit 35,000 miles the maintenance light came on. I called the dealership only to find out they want $500 to check everything. (That doesn't include the cost of anything they find wrong either)! I have personally checked everything I can, and the truck is running great, however the light needs to be reset. Is there a way to do that myself?

  1. sometimes if you disconnect the batter for a few mintues this will clear out the code.  or you can pull the ecm fuse as well.

but you should really have the code checked beforehand just to make sure.  just to clear the code should cost under $50

  2. Found this information on antoher website where the same question was asked. This is not the same as the "check engine light" or "service engince soon light".

Put the key into the ignition and press the odometer button. While holding down the odometer button, turn the key to the on position. You will see "-----"on the odometer display. It will count down "-----" "----" "---" "- -" "-". Then you will see zeros on the odometer display "000000". You can now release the odometer button. This will reset the maintenance light on your dash!!!!!!

  3. disconnect the battery. But more than likely its gonna come back soon. Autozone will read the code for free and clear it too
