Question:

How can I restart my Mac OS from day one?

People from Best Buy offered to install/update everything when I bought it and I realized later that they already created .Mac account, made administration password and username, and it says "my mom's name's laptop" instead of mine. They never told us this when I got it back and I want to know if I can restart all of that and make it my own, make everything FRESH.

  1. You should be able to fix all those things without re-loading your computer.  If you don't want a .mac account then contact the customer service at apple and cancel it.  Best Buy should tell you what the administration password and username are.   It's you computer so you are entitled to that information.  While you are logged into the administration account make sure that you set your account as an admin account.  For OS 10.4.x you can change the name of your computer by going to system preferences, selecting the sharing icon and then enter whatever you want your computer to be named in the window.  It may be different in OS 10.5.x but try there first.

  2. since MAC OS does not have any built-in back up software, you would have had to used the Disk Utility's restore feature to make a copy of your entire volume. Then you would have been able to restore your OS to that date.
