How can I restore matted-down carpet? It is old, but I do not want to buy new carpeting.

  1. A rented steam cleaning machine/shampooer and a carpet rake is your best bet, but generally matted carpet made to fluff up quickly mats again. If it's a high-traffic area, maybe a small rug over the matted part?


  2. Depending on how old?

    Carpet over the years wear out and the deep matted carpet does not seem to be the style today.

    Carpet picks up lot of unseen dirt and wear.  Have even seem the underneath wearing where the matting is.

    Suggest you replace
