I plan on taking the television parts out of the TV for a project, but would like to put the buttons on the TV to use. If I would like to have it so that the TV power button would turn on a light bulb inside the TV set, how would I go about doing that?

  1. Easy ! just wire a lamp across the on/off switch on the mains out contacts

PS Don't try connecting an electric fire or anything that consumes more than a regular light bulb !!!!!

  2. i dont think that you can do that, unless you can figure out a wan to do the same thing the the engineers did with the tv in the first place. sure it plugs into an ac outlet, but some of that energy is converted to dc voltage and reduced severely.some of this reduced dc voltage is what is used by the switch to turn on the tv. what i am trying to tell you is that the original switch is not strong enough to carry the amperage or the voltage required to light the lamp. you could possibly go to radio shack and talk to the people in there about your project, they might be able to help you out.

  3. Its dangerous as the switch is only designed to switch the current for the TV. If you really wanted to you could wire a relay to switch the light on when the TV was turned on

    or

buy a power saving extension lead which turns on/off all sockets when the main item (TV) is switched on/off!
