Question:

How can I rid my patio of mosquitoes?

I live on the ground floor of a 3 story apartment, and I am having a problem with mosquitoes. It has been dry, so I don't know where they are coming from. The problem is only on my back patio, which is a 10 x 12 foot concrete slab surrounded by pine straw. I live in South Carolina, so it is hot and humid, but the only water that I can detect is the condensation from my air conditioning unit, which drips out of the side of the building. I don't know what to do to stop this.

I can't really grow anything, unless it could possibly be hung from a hanging basket from the patio above mine. Is there any kind of concoction I could whip up and leave in a jar that would attract then kill them? Or is there something that would deter them?

Thank you so much for your help!

  1. Thermacell! It has no odor and will burn for about 3 hours on one charge. We live in the SE and it actually works. They offer a table model that looks like a lamp (20 diameter area coverage). We use a hand held Thermacell when hunting.

    Best wishes.

PS: Also, I believe this product is only about $30 or less.

  2. I have 5 bamboo holders about 4 feet high with special citronella oil burners in them all around my patio, just light the wicks and they keep them critters away, even in a wind they dont blow out! Excellent... i live in London but i am assuming you must be able to purchase them in America......

  3. at some hardware stores you can buy one of those contraptions that you are talking about. or your can buy a bug fogger but u probably can't use a fogger on the patio of an apartment for ovious reasons

  4. get some citronella candles from the dept store , its near the bug repellant ... they work awesome

  5. you can buy a machine  that attracts them  then sucks them into net trap
