I have an entertainment system in my house with surround sound, and I want to put rock speakers in the backyard....and I want to use my receiver in the house to play music. But I don't have anymore spots to plug in speakers. Is there something I can put into the receiver to let me run more speakers?

  1. yes you can put more than one wire in the same connector. I did it with speakers on my deck.

  2. go wireless, go to circuit city or some place similar and get the info you need and the hardware you need this way you can move the speakers around outside and bring them in at night so they don't get snagged

  3. Be careful here. Do not connect another pair of speakers to your main speaker connections on your receiver. This will cause a drop in impedance that could damage the receiver. You need an external switch box that will allow you to change between the main left/right speakers in the house and the outside speakers.

    Here's an example:

Also, make sure your wires used to connect the speakers outside are thick enough relative to the length you need. 14 gauge wire will be good for up to about 60 feet. 12gauge is good for up to about 90 ft. You can get good multi-strand copper wire (ala Monster Cable) at Home Depot for less than $0.50/ft.

  4. d**k hertz is correct. chances are you are already overloading your amplifier. if it doesn't follow ohms law,

    you most definitely are!

  5. You just need to purchase a seperate amplifier, and plug it into the pre out on your receiver.

    Try something like this:
