How can I safely clean the inner cotton lining of my leather handbag?

It's a Liz Claiborne black leather handbag with light pink 100% cotton lining. It has a lot of pen marks and other stains that I would like to remove.

I've always taken a clean cloth with a little gentle soap and just wiped away. If you can, pull the liner out of the purse, it will make it easier and it will dry quicker. You can try hairspray on the ink, but you may be stuck with those.
