How can I sanitize a mattress?

I have a pillow-top mattress that has to be cleaned (no waste, it was used by an acquaintance who didn't use sheets and was of dubious personal hygiene) There are no body fluids, its filthy. How can I clean it please?

I'd try steam cleaning.  don't saturate the mattress if you can help it, but hopefully steam cleaning will help to rememdy your problem.

I've never tried this, but I bet steam cleaning it would work - at least on some level. BTW, used mattresses by people who don't use sheets is pretty gross. I'd suggest just buying a new or refurnished one. Now that I think about it, there are companies who re-fabric old mattresses. I'd look into that.
