  1. If you have windows vista then you can drag the avi files into windows dvd maker :D if not then i'm afraid to ay you'll need to download nero or another dvd burning software which may be pricey. The only other way is to find freeware stuff but usually its got a corporate logo or something. Sometimes software may be pre-installed or in your box the computer came with. If you've got a mac like myself (i've also got windows) then you can burn it with idvd if you have a superdrive, if you only have a combo drive then its not able to burn dvd's.

  2. I use a great program called ConvertXtoDVD. There's several programs that burn an AVI to a DVD. Basically you could burn any single AVI file to a dvd, and if your dvd player supports vcd, and dvd-r, it'll autmatically play the video without the need of a menu, etc. If you need the menu and chapters, and all that good stuff, I recommend ConvertxToDVD or Nero.

  3. It has to be transcoded to Mpeg-2 This is a step that most DVD burning software (nero and such) does automatically. On a blazing fast machine it takes about 30 minutes to transcode and 2 minutes to burn.

  4. If you haven't got Windows DVD maker, download ConvertXto DVD. I use that cos it's faster than W D M, M.

  5. HI

if you want to play a DVD in any standard DVD player the file will not work unless it is encoded with mpeg2 compression and written to the disk in a .vob format .

So Mac Or PC you need to get the file import it into your DVD maker (ie)   iDVD for Mac or Nero for windows , then go through the options to make your menu , test it in a virtual player to see its the way that you want it then burn it as a DVD movie.

However a DVD Player On a PC or Mac will play any data on a Disk , but if its just and .avi , you might get screen judder as the data rate on the .avi file maybe greater than the DVD player allows for just data.

So best all round is to turn it into a DVD Movie and you can play it anywhere .

    Hope this helps bye
