My electric bills are quite high in my town. I shut off Water Heater, Unplug all the electric that are not in use, turn off all the electric when that are not in use, Set the AC unit to 80 F Auto, and yet the monthly electric bill is about $200. I check with the electric meter and it seems fine.

3 neat ways, many people won't think of are:

    1) Draft Stoppers

    2) Abzorb Mats - saves BIG time on hihg0traffic flooring areas, inside and out (garages, basements, pet areas, under appliances, etc.)

    3) Hurrican Socks - -even if you are not in a hurrican area, these absorb big time and are handy to have around.

  2. Wow, that is definitely high.  You can change your light bulbs to the energy efficient.  Unless you have an AC unit that is not efficient and is sucking the lift out of you, I would call the electric company and ask what could be causing this.  I usually get a larger bill if it's an estimate and not an actual reading.

  3. You might have an electric leak.  Electric leaks happen when wiring is not done correctly.  To test for this you need to unplug everything.....all lamps...appliances (yes the fridge), clocks and even the fan for the furnace (there should be a switch there).  The go check your electric meter.  It should not be spinning. If it is turn off all you breakers.  Turn each one on to see if the meter starts running.  If it does start running, turn it off, then go to the next one.  This will help narrow down where you may have a problem.  You will have to check the wiring in each outlet and light switch on that circuit.
