Mildew is a problem since a water leak...I have done the bleach thing and don't know what would work best to seal the older sandstone walls now that they are clean.

  1. I don't know if your going to have any luck with this. The sandstone will retain moisture from outside your basement also. You might be able to use a mildew resistant paint and spray it on.

  2. Have you tried to use Kilz mold proof primer?  It works for most all surfaces.  I live in Seattle and have applied it to floors to seal out smells to sub flooring before carpeting.  Also work's great on eliminating any mold growth on walls and celling.  If you don't want to cover the beauty of the sand stone maybe you can use a clear lacquer spray paint.

  3. its a product that is made for masonry keeps water out.go to nearest paint company and ask them might be called block seal? i saw a display one time the blocks were painted water was in them like a fish tank
