Question:

How can I sell my hockey pad design???

A year ago I was drawing ice hockey goalie pad designs (not like pad structure and stuff but the design/image on the front with colour etc.) and I created one that I and everyone I have shown has liked. A few other hockey goalies I know have even asked me how they could get that design on their pads. Interest has grown so much and everyone who has seen it has liked it so i began to wonder. How could I sell my design to a company like Reebok or ITech or Bauer or something. Either to sell the design for a certain amount and then they can use it however they want, or to partially keep it so I make some profit every time a pad with my design is sold. What would I need to do, like what steps; would I need a patent? And how would I arrange meetings and stuff etc.

Thankyou very much for your help.

  1. You're not going to be able to sell it. Period. They're not going to buy something that they can come up with an equivalent of for free.  The design on the front of the pads is not something that is really that hard to make look good, and if they can have an in house designer do it in a day, it's much cheaper then paying for your design.

If you had a innovative idea on something related to the structure of the pads, or a design feature to make it more functional or protective, you could sell that. However, a design like that, they won't even take if you give it to them due to risk of legal liability later on.

A superficial design is simply not a marketable commodity, no matter how cool it may look.

  2. You are supposed to call one of the companies like u said Reebok,Bauer.etc then talk about ur idea on the phone with them and they might use ur idea.

  3. on ebay

  4. Yawn.  Good luck!!
